Edinboro 24 CMU 13

The Chippewas had their four-dual win streak snapped as they traveled to Edinboro, Penn., for a rematch with the Scots.

Edinboro rode three major decisions and one fall to avenge its Jan. 20 loss to CMU.

The Chippewas led early with a 7-1 decision from Jack Leffler at heavyweight, but it was the only time the Chippewas would lead.

After the heavyweight victory, CMU split the next four weight classes with the score tied 10-10.

No. 15 freshman David Bolyard dropped the 157-pounds match in a key time in the dual vs. Ryan Yates.

Bolyard had beaten Yates 3-1 at the National Duals, but was unable to beat the wrestler again as he dropped the match 4-1 despite leading 1-0 after two periods.

After the loss at 157 pounds, CMU dropped three of its next four.

The Chippewas final win of the evening was at 174 pounds. Tony Gansen beat Matt Camino 9-2.

Last year’s MAC champion at 141 pounds, Jason Mester, spurred the Chippewas to their 23rd consecutive MAC victory Saturday.

Mester earned a 12-2 major decision over the Bulls Ryan Bentley in the day’s opening bout.

The Chippewas wrestlers rattled off two more wins to push the CMU lead to 10 points before UB was able to get on the board.

The Bulls first victory came at 165 pounds when defending MAC Champion Dave Guarino earned a 4-0 decision over Joe Ray Barry.

One-hundred-and-seventy-four pounder Gansen gave CMU six points by injury default vs. his opponent.

After the win at 174 pounds, the Bulls came back with victories at 184 pounds and 197 pounds.

At 184, it was Garret Bontempo over Jeff Pangborn, 4-1, and 197 ended with CMU’s Bill Stouffer losing 8-3 to Kyle Cerminara.

After the two wins, UB cut the Chippewas lead to six points before senior Jack Leffler’s pin at heavyweight.

Leffler pinned Mike Cooper to put CMU up by 12 points with two matches to go.

Jason Borrelli sealed the Chippewas win with a 7-2 decision at 125 pounds and Jordan Webster capped the dual with a 11-3 major decision over Brian Sebaaly at 133 pounds.
