Journalism Hall of Fame to open in fall honoring alumni

A Hall of Fame will open in November to honor alumni and faculty of the journalism department.

“It originated with the journalism alumni board,” said Sherry Knight, Hall of Fame chair and former editor of CM LIFE.

“(The board) is really looking for ways to promote the department and gain recognition. Recognizing our alumni is a way to do that.”

“It’s my understanding that it will be in Moore Hall on the fourth floor,” said Maria Marron, journalism department chairwoman.

The department is scheduled to move to Moore Hall in the near future, she said, so the department will locate the Hall of Fame there.

The Hall of Fame will include alumni who were successful after graduation and faculty who made a difference in the university’s journalism department and the community, Knight said.

“The induction dinner will recognize faculty,” she said.

The dinner will take place Nov. 8. It will honor Gilbert Maienknecht, often called, “CMU’s father of journalism.”

The dinner also will recognize past and present faculty, with an emphasis on retirees.
