Softball to play again after layoff

The weather did not allow the softball team to play at Michigan Tuesday, so
it will try again today against the No. 15 Wolverines.
The doubleheader starts at 4 p.m in Ann Arbor.
The Chippewas are coming off of a 9-0 six inning victory at the University of Detroit. CMU is 19-8 overall and 8-1 in the MAC.
The contest against Michigan will be good competition, said Head Coach Margo Jonker. They are a very good team year in and year out.
The Wolverines are 21-8 and 3-1 in the Big Ten and are coming off two wins against Western Michigan. Michigan had two weekend games cancelled because of the weather.
I have a lot of respect for their program overall, Jonker said. We are very familiar with them, we played them in the fall and split.
In a weekly press release, Jonker said the weather has been a problem.
Leading the way for Michigan will be senior pitcher Marissa Young, who has a record of 11-1. She has a 1.38 ERA and has struck out 106 batters this season.
We feel that if we play the way we did in the second game against Detroit, we will be able to play with any team in the nation and win most of them, Jonker said.
Leading the way at the plate has been senior Michelle Brander. She leads the team with a batting average of .427 and is also the leader in RBI with 19.
