Reed, Takach make first team all-conference
Three field hockey players saw a silver lining to a dark end of the season.
Senior Kristy Reed and juniors Erica Takach and Kim Ferris were named to the All-MAC team.
Central was ousted in the first round of the MAC Tournament by Miami University 1-0 Thursday.
“We had the potential to go all the way,” Takach said. “We were just not mentally tough enough to beat teams that were less talented than us.”
Reed and Takach were named to the first team and Ferris was named to the second team.
Reed makes the first team for the third time in her career — the only player in CMU history to accomplish such a feat.
Reed’s four goals this season puts her fourth on the career goals scored list at CMU and fifth in points scored.
Takach led the team in goals with 10, including four match-winning goals.
Her 10 goals and 23 points ranked third in the conference in both categories.
“I never received awards like this in high school so it was exciting for me,” Takach said.
It is the first all-conference honor for Takach.
Ferris was the leader of the Chippewa defense that limited its final four MAC opponents to four goals.
“I was really surprised when I got the award,” Ferris said. “I thought there were other players on the team that deserved it too.”
Ferris ended the season with four assists.
Ferris said she thinks the team will be solid next season after losing just five seniors.
“We will be just as strong, but next season we will have to step it up and work harder on finishing games,” she said.
Louisville won the MAC tournament by beating Kent State 4-2 and will advance to the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals scored four unanswered goals to beat the Flashes.
Louisville is leaving the MAC to join the Big East Conference next season.
