Field hockey upsets Kent State 2-0
Allyson Doan gave the field hockey team's confidence a huge lift Friday.
The sophomore midfielder scored her fourth goal of the season early in the second half, and the Chippewas beat Kent State 2-0 to advance to the Mid-American Conference Tournament finals.
"The whole idea is to come in confident," she said. "Right after that goal it brought our confidence up."
The championship game starts at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Central's offense controlled the ball for nearly the entire game.
It racked up 16 shots and had seven penalty corners.
Freshman Kelly Jordan scored on a penalty corner with less than seven minutes remaining to seal the win.
"That was the best game we played all year," said coach Cristy Freese. "It's a big win to knock off the No. 1 seed, but our job's not done."
The Chippewas play the winner of the Ohio-Miami game. Doan said the team will be ready for the title game.
"It's just like one game at a time," she said. "It's like a clean slate. Our minds are set on tomorrow."
