Four shows ready for theater
As the second semester starts of this academic year so does the second half the theater season and with it comes four fresh performances.
The first event is called “Book of Days,” which is based on the book by Lanford Wilson and will be showing from Feb. 1 to 4.
Second is an Orchesis Dance Concert directed by theater professor Yvette Crandall and will be showing from Feb. 16 to 19.
“We do three dance concerts a year and this one we always try to do a more artistic and more experimental idea,” Crandall said. “We’re trying to bring our audience a sense of enjoyment and relaxation with this piece of work.”
These performances are not just for theater students and are a chance for students to take their thoughts off of classes and expand their minds a little.
“Students should come with an open mind,” Crandall said. “They should not expect a dance recital but a dance experience.”
Almost a month after the dance concert comes a lighter piece called “Tartuffe” by Moliere, which is described as a French comedy classic.
The play will run from March 29 through April 2 and is directed by professor Keeley Stanley-Bohn.
The final performance is a fantasy play called “Between Land and Sea: A Selkie Myth,” directed by professor Nancy Eddy.
“The story is very magical, very Celtic and a lot of discovery,” Eddy said. “The main character is trying to figure out how to fit in while being so different.”
The play is set on the islands off of Scotland and Eddy said there is some truth behind the myths.
“With every myth there is some truth behind it,” Eddy said. “It’s not realistic, we’re dealing with fantasy, but it’s a chance for students to expand their minds culturally.”
“Between Land and Sea: A Selkie Myth” will run April 19 through the 23.
All these events will be at Bush Theatre and students and the public can purchase tickets at the Central Box Office or at the Bush Theatre box office.
