I was incredibly disappointed to read in Monday's paper that CMU is trying to crash John Stossel's lecture tonight by scheduling a Speak Up, Speak Out forum.

CMU has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on liberal speakers in recent years without giving a dime towards a conservative speaker. So what happens when the Campus Conservatives raise enough money for a big-name speaker like Stossel? A liberal event with the usual suspects is organized on the same day and time as the conservative event.

Stossel is an outstanding speaker who brings a perspective to campus.

It's not everyday someone of his caliber comes to Mount Pleasant, so it was unfortunate when administrators and faculty decided to compete with a student event.

If CMU really cares about diversity, they'll postpone the SUSO forum and allow students the chance to hear Stossel speaks at 7 p.m. in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium.
