Horowitz to discuss terrorism, Islamo-fascism

Author and activist David Horowitz will be on campus next week to present a keynote speech entitled "Stop the Jihad on Campus" as part of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week.

Horowitz will speak at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in Warriner Hall's Plachta Auditorium. The event is sponsored by Campus Conservatives and will be open to the public.

Dennis Lennox II, a Topinabee senior and spokesman for Campus Conservatives, said Horowitz's speech has relevance to politics and the upcoming elections.

"National security is a big issue in this year's presidential election," Lennox said. "Terrorism is a big concern. People don't realize how much support terrorists have in the United States. It's always amazing, even at smaller schools, how many people are supportive of the radical, Islamo-facist agenda."

Horowitz is known nationally for exposing radical professors who are ex-terrorists, anti-Semites and Al-Qaeda supporters, according to a Campus Conservatives press release. He makes regular appearances on Fox News and other media outlets to promote restoration of academic freedom and open inquiry on college campuses, the press release stated.

Lennox said Horowitz's knowledge and expertise spans many areas and will be of interest to students as well as community members.

"He is a national commentator on a variety of subjects. It is not often Central gets a speaker of David Horowitz's stature and character on campus," Lennox said.

Lambertville junior Chase Canning, president of Campus Conservatives, said it is important for Americans to be aware of Islamo-fascism information and said Horowitz will help to educate audience members on the topic.

He described Islamo-fascism as a form of radical action, including terrorism, toward those of other religions.

Horowitz has also written several books, including "Indoctrine U: The Left's War Against Academic Freedom," "The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America" and histories of the Kennedy and Roosevelt political families.

Lennox said there will be an open discussion after Horowitz's speech to give audience members an opportunity to learn further about information that is presented.

Campus Conservatives will be passing out flyers and pamphlets throughout the week to promote further understanding of Islamo-fascism.
