Be a football fan

There is very little reason for CMU football fans to miss Friday's regular season finale against Eastern Michigan at noon.

Except, of course, for Thanksgiving, which rests on the day prior. But with many students from the Detroit area and many of them home for the weekend, this is a game that few of them should miss.

Fans can get into Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti for free. That's right - it does not even cost a penny to attend the game. EMU is using this as a marketing ploy to get fans to attend the final game of the season.

With the Eagles at 2-9, their only hope is to put a damper on CMU's season, and they will get plenty of help from their fans. The Chippewas certainly can

afford all the fans they can get.

And even if students live a few dozen miles away, gas is dropping toward $1.50 per gallon. That is a bargain compared to what gas was priced at a few months ago.

Hence, very little reason to miss this game if you have nothing to do the day after Thanksgiving.

Especially if Western Michigan beats Ball State on Tuesday. If that happens, CMU will play for its third consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship berth. EMU would love nothing more than to take that opportunity away.

We still have not mentioned the rivalry between Central and Eastern. While it certainly is not as heated as the Central/Western rivalry, the game between the Chippewas and Eagles always is close. Remember last year's 48-45 loss at Kelly/Shorts Stadium?

The previous two games, which CMU and EMU split, went to overtime as well.

Although the two teams' records do not show it, Friday is a marquee matchup between two MAC teams that play each other down to the wire.

And CMU fans should not miss it.
