The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to increase President Michael Rao's salary by 3 percent, from $293,550 to $302,357, at today's meeting.
His contract, effective Jan. 1, was extended through 2016. Rao was also offered the option of three 1-year extensions, which could keep him in office through 2019.
Rao's retention bonuses will increase annually by 10 percent, starting in 2009 at $100,000.
"It is in the best interest of the university to keep president Rao," said Vice Chair John Kulhavi.
