Students ready to stay 'Up All Night'

Staying up through the earliest hours of the morning is a part of college life. On Friday night, it will even be sponsored.

Program Board and several other Registered Student Organizations are sponsoring the "CMU Up all Night" event, starting at 11 p.m. Friday in the Student Activity Center.

The event will conclude at 3 a.m. Saturday morning and admission is free to CMU students with a campus identification card.

"(It will) bring a variety of entertainment to students for free," said Carrie Lewis, Up All Night program co-chair and Allegan senior. "We're hoping to get around 2,000 students."

A screen will be set up on a wall in the pool and the latest James Bond 007 adventure, "Quantum of Solace" will be shown. The audience can hang out in the pool or sit pool-side to view the film.

Comedian Nicholas Anthony, singer Robin Horlock and a cappella group Central Harmony will perform. Swing Kids, an RSO that teaches swing dancing, will be there as well..

There will be video game stations with Dance Dance Revolution, RockBand and Guitar Hero tournaments, along with a variety of Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 and XBox games. Food will be served.

Some of the prizes will likely include a flat screen TV and a one-year subscription to Netflix. The first 1,000 students admitted into the event will receive a free T-shirt.

Tyler Richardson, a Highland junior and Promotions Director of WMHW-FM 91.5 FM, said he is very excited about the event.

"I'm in complete support," said the Highland junior. "It gives something for people to do on the weekend without having to pay for it."

Richardson said the radio station will have a booth set up and will be playing music and giving random prizes.
