Alumni relations VP accepts position at University of Massachusetts Amherst

UPDATED AT 2:20 p.m.
Mike Leto, vice president of development and alumni relations, accepted a position Wednesday at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Leto, who has served at Central Michigan University since 1998, will begin June 22 as UMass Amherst's vice chancellor for development and alumni relations.
Steve Smith, director of media relations, said Leto's departure was announced this afternoon at 1 p.m. at UMass Amherst.
"We learned about this yesterday," he said.
Leto organized CMU's first capital campaign, which exceeded its $50 million dollar goal by $29 million, Smith said.
Leto's replacement will most likely be found through a national search, he said. No steps have been made to begin the search.
"Mike is a master of the business and a great asset for CMU," said University President Michael Rao in a prepared statement.
"The organization we enjoy today is a result of Mike Leto's expertise," Rao said. "His organizational abilities are tremendous, which is part of the reason CMU had success with its capital campaign and other fundraising projects."
