Vice provost accepts job at Western Washington

CMU Vice Provost of Academic Affairs Catherine Riordan was named provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Western Washington University.

Riordan, who has been with CMU since 2001, was one of three finalists for the position at WWU, which conducted an extensive nationwide search.

"Catherine Riordan has the vision, leadership, knowledge and breadth of experience to be a great lift for Western. I am delighted she will be joining the Western community and look forward to working with her," WWU president Bruce Shepherd said in a prepared statement Tuesday.

Western Washington, which is located in Bellingham, Wash., had a 2008 enrollment of 13,777 full- and part-time students with 735 faculty, and has a 2009 state operating budget of $127,795,197.

Riordan will begin her new duties in August.
