Mount Pleasant man arrested in string of thefts at Warriner Hall

A 52-year-old Mount Pleasant man had been arrested in connection to a string of burglaries at Warriner Hall.

Donald Lee Morrison was arrested Thursday and is being charged with one felony count of conducting a criminal enterprise, two felony counts of breaking and entering and three felony counts of larceny in a building.

The charges involve crimes that occurred on both CMU's campus and within the Mount Pleasant city limits.

"We're definitely glad he's caught and the victims as just as happy as we are," said CMU Police detective sergeant Mike Morrow.

He said Morrison is believed to be responsible for all of burglaries occurring at Warriner Hall over the past couple months.

The burglaries in Warriner Hall occurred in more than 15 offices and prompted nine separate investigations. Cash and personal items were stolen, Morrow said.

Morrow declined to comment on specific details regarding the arrest, including how Morrison was caught, the total value of stolen property and whether or not the stolen items have been returned.

He did say that the faculty and staff at Warriner Hall and the Mount Pleasant Police Department played a role in assisting his arrest.

The felony charge of conducting a criminal enterprise consists of multiple crimes which were committed over an extended period of time, Morrow said.

"His criminal history includes multiple burglaries, which was factored into the decision to charge him with conducting a criminal enterprise," he said.

If convicted on all counts, Morrison could face 52 years in prison.
