Wrestling picked to win MAC


The Central Michigan wrestling team is the favorite once again.

For the second consecutive year, CMU was picked by MAC coaches to win the 2011 conference championship. The team finished with 24.5 points, edging out Kent State (24 points) for the honors. Buffalo, Ohio, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois rounded out the preseason poll.

Individually, four Chippewas were selected to win their respective weight classes. Junior Scotti Sentes is tabbed to win the 133 pound weight class, while teammates junior Mike Miller (165 pounds), sophomore Ben Bennett (174 pounds) and junior heavyweight Jarod Trice were tabbed to win individual MAC titles.

CMU is coming off its 10th MAC title in 11 years and ninth consecutive MAC tournament championship. It opens the regular season on Nov. 6 at the Eastern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti.
