Anti-racism speaker, author to deliver keynote address for Martin Luther King Jr. week

Central Michigan University will welcome one of the foremost anti-racism speakers and authors in the nation for Martin Luther King Jr. week.

Tim Wise will be the Keynote Speaker 7 p.m. Tuesday in Plachta Auditorium.

"He is a very dynamic speaker and he has a really good reputation,” said Keisha Janney, assistant director of Minority Student Services.

The speech is entitled “Colorblind: Barack Obama, Post-Racial Liberalism and the Retreat from Racial Equality."

Political Science Professor Sterling Johnson agreed with Wise’s position.

“It’s not genuine to say that I don’t even see a person’s skin color, it’s like saying I don’t even see a part of what makes us unique.” Johnson said. “But obviously you don’t want to judge people for it.”

Wise is a nationally recognized speaker, having spoken at more than 600 universities across the nation and having published five books. He has also appeared on multiple television news programs.

Janney said that they are expecting Planchta auditorium to be at or near capacity. The event is free and several classes have already claimed sections.
