Softball snaps win streak, begins two-game losing streak


The Central Michigan softball team lost Saturday morning against University Illinois-Chicago, 1-0.

In the top of the fifth inning, UIC had runners on first and third with one out. A fielder's choice out at second allowed the winning run to score.

Junior pitcher Kara Dornbos took the loss for CMU. She threw her second complete game of the weekend at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind.

CMU (9-11) is 1-2 in the five-game tournament. Its second Saturday game started at 12:15 p.m. against Michigan State.

CMU lost in its second Friday game against Indiana, 5-3 (box score), which ended a season-high six-game win streak.

CMU won its first Friday game 7-0 against North Dakota (box score). Dornbos threw a five-hit shutout in the win. CMU scored seven runs on eight hits.

The shutout is Dornbos' second of the season. The first one was March 2 against South Dakota State, a 2-0 win.
