CMU approves 1.96 percent tuition increase for 2012-13 academic year

The Central Michigan University Board of Trustees approved a 1.96 percent undergraduate tuition increase for the 2012-13 academic year.

Before a meeting Thursday at the Bovee University Center, the board passed the $7 increase -- to $365 per credit hour -- by a unanimous vote. CMU is the first of the state's 15 public universities to set undergraduate tuition, a change from its typical July date.

CMU raised undergraduate tuition by 3.47 percent, or $12 per credit hour, last year, the lowest amount increase in the state.

Gov. Rick Snyder has proposed a budget that includes a 3 percent increase in higher education funding for universities that kept tuition increases under 4 percent.
