UPDATE: Snyder appoints Henry Ford museum president to Board of Trustees after Trustee Maryland resigns
Gov. Rick Snyder appointed Patricia Mooradian to the Central Michigan University Board of Trustees today, replacing Trustee Patricia Maryland, who has resigned.
Mooradian is president of The Henry Ford in Dearborn, a history museum complex that includes the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village and the Ford Rouge Factory Tour, among other attractions. She also serves on the National Arts Strategies board and the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau board.
“Patricia is an experienced professional, and I know she will make a positive contribution to the board,” Snyder said in a news release.
Ross said in a news release her experience as president of The Henry Ford will lend itself nicely to her new job.
“We welcome Ms. Mooradian as an outstanding leader with organizational, community and professional expertise,” said CMU President George E. Ross. “As someone with a deep understanding and appreciation for arts, culture and history, her guidance and input will be invaluable to CMU.”
Executive assistant to the president at CMU, Mary Jane Flanagan said that serving on the board would have posed too great a challenge for Maryland as she relocated following her promotion.
Marlyand will now serve as president of health care operations and chief operating officer for Ascension Health, the parent company of St. John Providence Health System, where she previously served as president and chief executive officer.
Maryland’s resignation became effective June 30.
“She didn’t think she’d be able to fulfill her duties to the board because of her promotion,” Flanagan said of the former trustee. “The university was sorry to have Trustee Maryland resign from the Board of Trustees but I think everyone certainly understand the demands of her new position.”
Hopes are high, however, regarding her replacement. Flanagan was certain that Mooridian’s background in leadership positions will serve CMU well.
“I think her experience will be valuable to the board,” Flanagan said. “I look forward to working with her.”
Mooradian, who earned her associate degree at Marymount University in Virginia and her bachelor of fine arts degree from Texas Christian University, will serve out the remainder of Maryland's term, which ends December 31, 2018.
