CMU students come together for Fields of Faith at Kelly/Shorts stadium

Central Michigan University students gathered together last night for Fields of Faith at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

Fields of Faith is a student led event held at more than 230 high school and college stadiums every year.

The CMU chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosted Fields of Faith for its second consecutive year.

"In the same space where athletes are being cheered for in their games, we want to stand and cheer for God," said A.J. Westendorp, who headed the event.

The Holland senior is the tight end for CMU's football team and a member of FCA.

The evening opened with His House Christian Fellowship Church of CMU's Christian worship band performing worship songs.

"The music was moving and easy to follow along to, which allowed me to feel really involved instead of just a member of the crowd," said Pinckney sophomore Grace Geiger.

Students were able to sang along as the lyrics to each song were displayed on the scoreboard.

"The goal is to bring an entire community together to see what God has done in peoples' lives in the past year, celebrate that, and to be challenged to offer ourselves to God," Westendorp said.

The evening continued with another song from His House's band, and along side them a group of students performed a rehearsed dance performance about giving your life to God.

Following the performance, more than 10 students and members of the Mount Pleasant community shared their testimonies.

"One thing that makes Fields of Faith special is that people from the crowd are invited to share something that God has done in their lives in the past year," Westendorp said.

Each person who stood up in front of the crowd to share their testimony had a different story.

The testimonies ranged from those who have struggled with depression, loss of loved ones, being unemployed, struggled suicidal plans and near death health struggles.

"It just goes to show, no matter where you come from or where you are going you can walk with God," Geiger said.

The evening concluded with a group prayer. The entire crowd was invited down onto the football field where they circled up and shared their faith with one another.
