Beckman: Farewell

With my time at Central Michigan University quickly coming to an end, I wanted to reflect on my experiences at the news desk and on campus. Coming to CMU for hockey was the best decision of my life. I’ve made some of my best friends and some of the best people on the ice.

Even though my time on the ice has not been great, it's been about the fun on and off. From living with my teammates and seeing the growth in my own life, hockey at Central has taught me a lot about myself.

Over these three years of working, seeing the growth of the sports desk has been something to see. For me and my writing, CM life has helped me out a lot; it's more concise, and I feel like it's become easier to write different things.

A few of my favorite memories of Central Michigan were the Olympics last winter in 2026, my excitement watching the men's and women's hockey tournaments, and seeing both teams capture gold medals for our country. It was one of the most exciting things I've ever watched in sports.

The best in-person game I saw was the victory that Central Michigan football captured, a win that pushed them to the threshold that gave them bowl eligibility against Buffalo in November of 2025.

Hockey has been my life for the better part of 17 years, and with the competitive side coming to an end, it was one of the hardest things to say goodbye to.

From falling on my butt the first time I stepped on the ice, to the last time I stepped off on senior night, the sport I love has given me everything and more.

My favorite goal in my career was the first goal of the season I scored against Michigan at the famous Yost Ice Arena during my sophomore year. Hockey means a lot and hopefully I will be able to stay close to the sports I love.

Thank you, everyone. Every person who helped me with writing, everyone who helped me in sports and everyone who cared about me. Thank you to my parents and family who have loved and supported me through everything. I couldn't do this without you. You guys mean the world to me.
