Softball sweeps Friday series with Bowling Green

Central Michigan softball took both games against Bowling Green on Friday.

CMU beat BGSU 6-5, followed by a 5-3 victory.

In game one, third baseman Trista Cox notched four RBI, including a double that opened scoring for the Chippewas.

BGSU countered with five runs in the bottom of the second, but Cox's 3-run home run the same inning gave the Chippewas the eventual victory.

“I thought it was cool how everyone stepped up," said head coach Margo Jonker.  "Everyone played their part. If we keep doing that then we will continue (to do well)."

CMU infielder Chelsea DeLamielleure also homered.

Game two

In game two, junior CarolAnn Sexauer stole the show for CMU.

Sexauer's three-run home run in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie and clinched the women's second consecutive victory.

“Offensively, (Sexauer’s) key hit was perfect timing, and we needed that at that time," Jonker said.

In game one, freshman pitcher Rachael Knapp continued her strong season, allowing one hit through 5 1/3 innings in relief of starter Chelsea Sundberg.

Senior Morgan Yuncker was solid in game two for CMU, allowing three hits and one earned run through her 3 1/3 innings pitched.

The Chippewas took the momentum gained by the double-header sweep into their second road series of the weekend at Toledo.
