CMU 7, MSU 4: Baseball completes season sweep on rainy night in Detroit

DETROIT -- Central Michigan University baseball made things interesting against Michigan State University by keeping the game close at the fourth annual "Clash at Comerica."

Ultimately, an eighth inning fielding error by MSU's shortstop Ryan Richardson let CMU take control and ease into a win.

Richardson's error led to a go-ahead run scored by CMU's Tyler Huntey, who singled down the right field line earlier in the inning to tie the game. The Chippewas trailed behind 2-1 until Huntey's hit.

"A lot of people don't realize that we can play at the same level if not better than Michigan State," Huntey said. "This sweep means a ton to a lot of guys in our locker room. It was awesome to finish the sweep at this ballpark, too."

A two RBI double by Richardson shot the Spartans off to a quick lead in the second inning. It took CMU two more innings to garner its first base hit, which came in the form of an RBI single by first baseman Zack Fields.

CMU's starting pitcher, sophomore left-hander Adam Aldred, pitched six innings surrendering only one earned run. It was the third time Aldred has faced the Spartans this season.

The Chippewas batted through the entire lineup in the eighth inning. A two RBI triple by the speedy Nick Regnier solidified CMU's 7-4 win against the Spartans.

"It's a long season and there are going to be many bumps a long the way, but we have played well in this series," said CMU head coach Steve Jaksa. "We've played some really competitive games (at Comerica Park) over the last few years but tonight we finally broke through"
