Golf outing funds to benefit CMU scholarship for military students

The inaugural endowment of the Betty A. Brubaker Family of Heroes Scholarship will embark on a major contribution drive through a golf outing planned for early next month.

Gladwin Heights Golf Course will host a golf outing at 9 a.m., on Sunday, Aug. 10. Proceeds from the event will go directly to the fund which is set aside for Central Michigan University students who are serving active duty in or have been honorably discharged from the military. National Guardsmen, reserves troops and respective family members eligible for Veterans Affairs educational entitlement programs can apply for the scholarship, as well.

CMU has approximately 1,000 veterans and 1,500 military personnel attending its Mount Pleasant and global campus institutions. Aside from active duty, other requirements are necessary to receive the scholarship, such as having at least a 2.5 GPA.

The scholarship was created to honor the life of Betty Brubaker and her three military husbands.

The outing will cost participants $60 per golfer, which includes 18 holes and a hot dog.
