Debbie Stabenow to speak at Great Lakes symposium
The nations leading Great Lakes advocate in Congress, Debbie Stabenow, will be on campus at 1 p.m. Thursday in Education and Human Services Building 118 Lecture Hall.
Stabenow will be speaking as part of a symposium titled "Great Lakes Science in Action: An Interdisciplinary and Multi-Institutional Approach."
Stabenow is a U.S. senator and co-chair of the Senate Great Lakes Task Force, and will deliever a keynote address at the symposium.
She was the first woman from Michigan to be elected to the U.S. Senate and has authored the bipartisan Stop Invasive Species Act to address the threat from Asian carp. Stabenow has submitted legislation to Congress to lock in $475million in annual funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
