National Weather Service issues winter storm warning

Students brave the frigid temperatures and the snow fall to attend classes on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a winter storm warning is in effect for the Mount Pleasant area from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.

The NWS said there could be six to 10 inches of heavy, wet snow. Strong north winds are expected to reach about 31 miles per hour or more. Some blowing and drifting is expected Wednesday night. 

The weather is expected to cause major travel disruptions, scattered power outages and potential public school closures on Thursday.

The NWS discourages people from traveling while the warning is in effect, and to bring an extra flashlight and water in case of an emergency.
