Relay For Life Kickoff event slated for Thursday

The Relay for Life Kickoff event will take place 7 p.m. Thursday in the Bovee University Center Rotunda.

Alyssa Hayward, president of Colleges Against Cancer, said the event provides a chance to ask questions about the upcoming Relay for Life in March, and also to sign up a team.

“Kickoff is the start to our Relay (for Life) season, so there will be a lot of information about how to get a team started and our goals for this year's (event),” Hayward said.

The event is sponsored by Colleges Against Cancer at Central Michigan University. There will be entertainment and ice cream provided to those in attendance.

"We are having a student speaker talk about his experience with cancer to emphasize the importance of this event and why people should get involved," Hayward said.

Relay for Life is hosted by the American Cancer Society to remember the lives lost to cancer and celebrate those who have battled the disease.

At the event, teams fundraise money by walking around a track or path available to them.

The Relay for Life event will take place from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. March 25 at the Indoor Athletic Complex.
