Softball opens Under Armour Showcase with two wins
On the opening evening of the annual Under Armour Showcase, the Central Michigan softball team extended their win streak to four games under the lights in Clearwater, Florida.
CMU defeated Fort Wayne in the first game 2-1. Sophomore Lauren Vaccaro picked up the win, pitching 4.2 innings, recording two strikeouts and giving up six hits.
Sophomore Andrea Pearlberg led the team with two hits. Senior Rachael Knapp closed out the final two innings, recording four strikeouts.
In the final game of the day, CMU took down USC Upstate 5-1.
The Chippewas improved to 12-7 on the season with the win and are 12-2 since spring break began.
The Chippewas are back again tomorrow for day two of the showcase, with games against Army at 11:30 p.m. and USF at 4:15 p.m.
