Student jumps out of window, in critical condition

A Central Michigan University student is in critical condition after jumping out of a fourth floor window in Carey Hall.

The student was responsive when CMU police arrived around 7 p.m. on April 28, according to a CMUPD statement.

Officers provided first aid and the male student was taken by ambulance to McLaren Central Michigan. He was later flown to a hospital in Grand Rapids for further treatment.

Lt. Cameron Wassman of CMUPD said witnesses saw the student acting "distraught" before he jumped. Police are conducting interviews and reviewing the student's electronics to understand what led to the incident.

Police are still investigating the incident, which preliminary indicates the incident was a possible suicide attempt, according to CMUPD.
