New Water Treatment Plant superintendent to be introduced by city commission

The new superintendent of the Mount Pleasant Water Treatment Plant will be introduced during a city commission meeting on Monday, July 10.

Jamie Hockemeyer will be replacing Malcolm Fox as superintendent after Fox's upcoming retirement. Hockemeyer will begin working before Fox officially retires so that the two have an opportunity to work together so Hockemeyer can learn some things from the previous superintendent, said city manager Nancy Ridley.

At the same meeting, city commissioners will be asked to approve a bid for flashing school crossing signs. The signs will have flashing lights on the outside of them to draw extra attention from drivers to inform them that they are entering a school zone.

City commissioners will also review and approve the contract for the emergency curbside clean-up services that were employed to collect flood-damaged items from Mount Pleasant residents on Saturday, July 1. Contracts costing over $10,000 typically need approval from city commissioners before being put into place, though the $46,000 contract for the clean-up was approved by Nancy Ridley as an emergency service.
