A rally to support the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program is scheduled to take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 in front of Central Michigan University’s Fabiano Botanical Garden.

The rally is co-sponsored by registered student organizations A Mile in Our Shoes, Asian Cultural Organization, Black Lives Matter CMU, Collective Action for Cultural Unity, Empowered Latino Union, the CMU chapter of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Phenomenal Brown Girl.

The Cherry Project, a photography and blogging campaign focused on positivity, sharing people’s personal stories and raising awareness, is also a co-sponsor.

DACA temporarily protected the children of undocumented immigrants from deportation and maintained their work eligibility. In September, the Trump administration announced the end of the program, giving Congress six months to come up with a legislative replacement.

Rally participants will have the opportunity to show support for DACA, learn more about the program and raise awareness on campus.

Questions about the rally can be directed to any of the organizations sponsoring the event by email or on social media.
