Sophomore Jordan Hyames of Zeta Tau Alpha took initiative to reduce stress within the Panhellenic community by creating finals week survival baskets.

In the Gamma Omicron chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha, Hyames promotes unity among chapters by creating gifts for the community. In her position as Vice President of Scholarship for Central Michigan University’s Panhellenic Council, she works with the individual chapters’ scholarship chairs.

Because of her involvement in the community, she came up with the idea to reach out to Panhellenic women before finals week.

“Putting together the exam week baskets was something a little extra that I wanted to do for each chapter,” Hyames said. “I did something similar during recruitment, where I created a recruitment survival kit. Since the chapters really liked these, I figured I could do something similar for exam week.”

The baskets contained items for studying such as study tips, a list of ‘brain foods’ and flashcards. Other items were to help cope with stress like a homemade stress ball, coloring book and chocolate.

“I really wanted to do something new and fun for all of the sororities before exam week,” Hyames said. “I think that putting in a little effort to make something for each individual chapter made them feel special and hopefully eased their stress.”

Each basket was delivered to the sorority houses for the women in the organizations to enjoy.
