Junior forward/midfielder Georgina Minta takes the ball upfield on Friday, Sept. 28 at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.

Friday is Senior Day for Central Michigan field hockey and the team will honor its five seniors as they welcome in the Ball State Cardinals in a Mid-American Conference matchup.

The Chippewas sit at 1-15, 0-5 MAC on the season and have dropped 14 straight games. Their most recent setback was a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Davidson Wildcats last Sunday in Davidson, North Carolina.

Head coach Catherine Ostoich has been positive to her team and has preached the message of positivity this week.

“The message has been, ‘we can do this,’” Ostoich said. “We keep feeding positivity to them because we show them in film everyday after the game like we are capable of doing this and just kind of give games to other teams. Focusing on possession and working on the little things and if we do that, we will be successful.”

Senior Day always brings emotions, no matter what sport. A win on Senior Day would be paramount going forward.

“I think it would do wonders for the team going into the MAC tournament,” Ostoich said. “The team has really worked hard so a win, especially on Senior Day, it would mean a lot for these seniors because I know they have done a lot for our team these last couple of years and especially the team this year, so it would mean the world to them."
