Mount Pleasant to receive about 8-12 inches of snow

Mount Pleasant could see up to 12 inches of snow in the next 24 hours after a winter storm warning was issued to central Michigan.

National Weather Service Grand Rapids Meteorologist Mark Sekelski said conditions in central Michigan could be very dangerous. The warning lasts until 7 p.m. on Jan. 28.

“We expect heavy snow to move in early tomorrow morning and into rush hour and possibly into the afternoon until around 7 p.m.,” he said. “Mount Pleasant will get between 8-12 inches of snow until 7 p.m.”

Sekelski said that the winds will also be very strong. Some gusts of wind may even reach between 20-30 mph.

“As the storm goes by, we expect to see a lot of cold air come through,” he said. “We’re seeing wind chills below zero temperatures and could even reach 25 below freezing at times.”

Roads and sidewalks could be very icy, he said. It's recommended to use caution if anyone is out driving or walking.

With conditions as dangerous as they are projected, some classes may be canceled. There are currently no alerts or comments from Central Michigan University about the storm, but any alerts of cancellation will be run through the Central Alert System.
