The city of Mount Pleasant wants residents to exercise safety with fireworks on Independence Day.

Fireworks are only allowed to be set off on private property between July 3-5. No firework use is allowed between the hours of 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. on these days.

According to the city's website, children should stay away from fireworks. Additionally, individuals should not use fireworks if they are under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance.

Mount Pleasant Public Information Officer Autume Balcom said attending community fireworks shows is the best way to prevent accidents on private properties.

"If you choose to participate," Balcom said. "Just make sure you're following the rules to keep you and those around you safe."
