After serving as interim dean for a year, Betty Kirby will serve as dean of the College of Education and Human Services.

In an Aug. 21 press release, University Communications said Provost Mary Schutten appointed Kirby to serve as the next dean of EHS, effective July 1, 2019.

Kirby is celebrating her 15th year at CMU. She came to CMU in 2004 as an educational leadership faculty member, and served as department chair later. In 2012 she was named associate dean of EHS and was promoted in 2014 to senior associate dean and director of professional education. In 2016-17, Kirby served as acting dean of the college.

In July 2018, Kirby replaced Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson, who was appointed president of Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
