The following incidents were among those handled by the Central Michigan University Police Department from Sept. 24-29.

Sept. 24

Another incident was reported to CMU police in an ongoing investigation of a fraudulent internship scam. This is the fourth reported incident where an individual has received emails about internship opportunities that were later determined to be fraudulent. In these cases, a fraudulent business reached out to victims asking them to purchase gift cards, scratch off the back and send pictures of the codes. In the most recent incident, which was reported to CMUPD at 3 p.m. on Sept. 24, a 19-year-old woman allegedly sent at least $1,500 of gift cards to the fraudulent company. The incident remains under investigation.

Sept. 25

CMU police conducted a mental health check at 4:48 p.m.

Sept. 26

A 66-year-old man reportedly viewed pornography on a computer at 12:13 a.m. Sept. 26 in the Charles V. Park Library. An individual saw the man allegedly viewing pornography and reported the incident to library staff, who called university police. However, because the man logged off from the computer, police were not able to look through the computer's search history to verify if the man was viewing pornography. At this point, Lt. Cameron Wassman said CMU police are not yet sure if the incident fits the legal description of pornography. There is no indication that the man viewed any sexual act involving minors, police said. Investigators are waiting to complete forensics on the computer for more information. The incident remains under investigation.

Police investigated a larceny report on Sept. 26 that occurred sometime between 4-7:30 p.m. on Sept. 24. An 18-year-old man allegedly left his backpack on the gym floor in the Student Activity Center, and when he came back several hours later his Apple AirPods and a basketball were missing. Police viewed surveillance videos, but the footage did not help in the investigation. The AirPods are valued at $160 and the basketball is valued at $60, police said.

A 23-year-old man was arrested by CMUPD for trespassing at 4:39 p.m. at Northwest Apartments, 300 W. Bellows St. A patrol officer saw the man on campus and recognized him from a previous incident where he stole a gaming system from Kulhavi Hall on Sept. 19. After the larceny incident, the man was advised not to be on CMU's campus, Wassman said. He was arrested for trespassing on campus Sept. 26 and taken to Isabella County Jail.

Sept. 27

Police responded to a report of property damage 11 a.m. at the Wesley Foundation, 1344 S. Washington St. The foundation reported a series of events of property damage that began Aug. 24. A sign frame was broken and a sign was stolen, the victim reported. Two more signs were damaged on the property. The victim told police they are not sure when the damage occurred. Video surveillance did not reveal any leads for police. The property damage was valued at $180, Wassman said.

At 1:22 p.m., an individual turned in $9.99 in cash to CMUPD. Police do not know where the money was found.

Sept. 29

An 18-year-old woman reported harassment by an ex-boyfriend to CMUPD at 12:15 p.m. The woman told police she had received unwanted text messages from her ex-boyfriend, a 20-year-old man. The man allegedly asked the woman to send him $300, or he threatened to "tell about her cheating," Wassman said. The woman did not send the money and reported the incident to police. Officers made contact with the man, who said the messages were a joke.
