Central Michigan‘s volleyball team has earned a berth in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.

The team will travel to South Dakota to take on the host Coyotes, who finished their season 27-2.

The NIVC is an alternative postseason opportunity for teams who do not qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

Central Michigan finished the regular season 21-7 with a 11-5 record in the Mid-American Conference, which was good enough to clinch a share of the MAC West Division title. However, a loss in the MAC Tournament semifinals took away an opportunity for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

It will be the first appearance in the NIVC for the Chippewas under coach Mike Gawlik. Their match against the Coyotes is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
