Nicole Sparling Barco named new Honors Program director

Nicole Sparling Barco has been appointed as director of the Honors Program by Executive Vice President and Provost Mary C. Schutten. 

Barco will replace Phame Camarena as Honors Program Director on July 1, 2020. Her appointment will last until June 30, 2023. Barco has started working with Camarena to create a smoother transition before she begins.

Barco's starting salary is $98,534, according to University Communications.

The Honors Program Director is responsible for chairing the Honors Council as a non-voting member, as well as course scheduling, overseeing the Centralis scholarship program and developing Honor-designated courses.

Since Fall 2018, Barco has worked as Central Michigan University's Director of Cultural and Global Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. She is a Presidential Administrative Fellow for the 2019-20 academic year and was a world literature faculty member in the English Language and Literature department from 2014-17.
