Closures for Illinois and Michigan Street this Friday
Some downtown Mount Pleasant streets will be closed, tomorrow, Aug. 2.
Illinois Street will be closed between Main and University Streets. Michigan Street will still be open, but will have one lane of traffic between Main and University Streets. Sidewalks will be accessible.
The closure is due to a sewer relining project and is expected to be completed that day. The roads will stay intact, but these closures allows room for equipment needed for the project.
“We have a sanitary sewer relining project that we have some funds to do every year,” City Engineer Stacie Tewari said. “For lines that are in poor condition, it allows us to put a membrane liner inside which hardens and basically prolongs the life of that pipe without having to dig up the ground to do it.”
