Special Olympics Michigan is hosting its annual CMU Homecoming 5K fundraiser to help raise money for its athletes.

This year's event, like many others of its kind, will go virtual.

Participants can run or walk a 5K (3.1 miles) anywhere in the community, including at home, at their own pace.

After their walk or run, participants can send their time and a photo of them wearing their Central Michigan gear to kayla.sova@somi.org on or before Oct. 24.

When times are received and tallied up, a t-shirt and medal will be sent to the participant's home.

Awards for the fastest male and female finishers, Masters (40 years old and above) top male and female finishers, top CMU student finisher and youngest runner for the run will be awarded on Oct. 26. Additionally, there is a special prize for the highest online fundraiser.
