Micaela Kelly wins MAC WBB Player of the Week award

CMU’s Micaela Kelly was named Mid-American Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. 

Kelly won the honor for her performance in the Chippewas' 90-87 win over Ohio, a game in which she scored a game-high 28 points and added six rebounds and four assists. The Detroit native, who is the reigning MAC Player of the Year, currently ranks third in the conference in scoring. 

On the year, Kelly is averaging a team-high 23.7 points per game. She's also ninth in the conference in assists, with an average of 3.4 per game. In the preseason, Kelly was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List, an award given to the nation's top point guard. 

The Chippewas are currently 5-2, holding a 3-0 mark in the MAC, and are ranked seventh in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. They return to action at 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at home against Akron.
