Sophomore guard Micaela Kelly react to cutting down the net following a game against Western Michigan on March 6, 2019 in McGurik Arena. The Chippewas clinched a share of the MAC regular season title with the win.

Micaela Kelly is now solidified in elite company.

The Central Michigan senior guard became the third player in program history to score 2,000 career points with a layup with 35 seconds remaining in the second quarter of the Chippewas' game against Toledo on Wednesday in McGuirk Arena.

Kelly now ranks second all-time in scoring. She hit a free throw in the third quarter to claim sole possession of second place, passing Crystal Bradford's total of 2,006 points. Presley Hudson is first all-time with 2,309 points scored.

"She's a special player," coach Heather Oesterle said after the game, a 72-67 loss, "I mean, you look at her first couple years (where) she complimented Presley (Hudson) and Reyna (Frost) and played a role. She was always a threat offensively. But then, last year, she stepped into that best player of our program role and kind of made it her own."

Coming into the game with Toledo, Kelly stood at 1,995 points.

Kelly hit 1,000 points on Dec. 6, 2019 against Iona.

Kelly has started every game of her Chippewa career. In 2019-20, she was named MAC Player of the Year after averaging 21.5 points per game, a number that was fifth in the country. As a sophomore during the 2018-19 season, Kelly was a third team All-MAC selection. She was also chosen to the MAC All-Freshman team in 2017-18.

At the time of Kelly's 2,000th point, the Chippewas trailed the Rockets 35-24.
