The Central Michigan University Academic Senate approved a proposal to extend class modality changes for the next academic year.

Previously, the senate temporarily removed requirements for class modality changes to allow all classes to teach in HyFlex modality regardless of prior approval through the Summer 2021 semester. During the Academic Senate meeting on Feb. 2, the proposal was extended to allow any class to continue to teach in HyFlex modality through the Spring 2022 semester.

Academic Senate chairperson Katrina Piatek-Jimenez said the extension was due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Senior Vice Provost of Academic Affairs Julia Johnson presented the 2021 President and Provost Awards for Outstanding Research and Creative Activity to four faculty members.

"I want to identify these four faculty who are recipients so we can collectively offer them kudos for their outstanding performances," Johnson said. "It's very rare to have our work recognized by our peers, so thank you to these four faculty for their fine works."

The Presidents Award was given to faculty members Tanya Domina and En-Bing Lin.

Domina, from the department of fashion and interior design, was recognized for her work gaining support from federal and international. Lin, from mathematics, was commended for his research on wavelet analysis and applications published in high impact journals.

The Provost Award was presented to faculty members James Gerhart and Abu Amin.

Gerhart, a part of the psychology department, was recognized for his research on the community impacts of COVID-19. Amin, finance and law faculty member, was rewarded for his contributions in areas of corporate governance.
