The music theatre program will be live streaming a musical written by a Central Michigan University alumnus Feb. 11-14.

Written by 2020 graduate Claire Catherine Dettloff, “Semantics” is a musical about life, art, love and relationships.

Keeley Stanley-Bohn, "Semantics" director and faculty member, said that the subject of the play makes for a great event for anyone who needs a plan for Valentine’s Day.

The musical will available to live-stream the show Feb. 11-13 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets for the show live-streamed from Bush Theatre are $5 for one person and $10 for a group.

Dettloff wrote the book, music and lyrics as a project for the Honors Program. Stanley-Bohn described it as “beautiful” after watching a staged reading of the musical last year. Stanley-Bohn said she is very excited to be able to direct the work of an outstanding former student.

“(Dettloff's) very bright, very creative,” Stanley-Bohn said. “And on top of that…she's also extremely disciplined and committed and works very hard at anything she puts her mind to.”

Stanley-Bohn said writing an entire two-act musical by oneself is an immense task because the different portions, like dialogue and music, are usually split between specialists.

Christian Edward, a music theater major, is the music director for “Semantics.” Stanley said that she has never worked with a student music director before, but that Edward is “very talented” and “has been doing a great job.”
