Academic Senate announces winners of the CMU Excellence in Teaching awards

Every year since 1985 Central Michigan University recognizes and celebrates several professors with the CMU Excellence in Teaching awards.

The Academic Senate recognized seven faculty with the Excellence in Teaching awards, which were announced during a March 16 meeting.

  • Emily Bloesch, assistant professor of psychology
  • Caroline Gwaltney, assistant professor and regional clinical coordinator of physical therapy
  • Alexandra Mascolo, professor of piano in the school of music
  • Mark Potts, fixed-term faculty of finance and law
  • MaryBeth Smith, instructor and clinical supervisor of communication science 
  • Michelle Steinhilb, associate professor of biology
  • and Bernie Kerr, professor of health sciences

Due to technical difficulties the President and Provost report and presentation on strategic pathways of academic prioritization was postponed until the next Academic Senate meeting on April 6.

Other Business

  • The Senate appointed two new members Jeffrey Fisher and Philip Hong to the Ad Hoc committee to discuss modality updates. 
  • The Senate approved a policy change to the grade requirements in the accelerated MA degree program, more information on the policy change is available in the Academic Senate recording.
  • The university nominated third-year student Eric Urbaniak for the Newman Civi Fellowship Award.
  • Due to student request the Office of Information and Technology has made closed captioning available to students on Webex and Microsoft Teams to help with remote learning.
