Former Chippewa 157-pound wrestler Colin Heffernan is returning to Mount Pleasant.

The three-time NCAA Tournament qualifier will join Tom Borrelli’s staff as an assistant coach starting Monday, Aug. 9th. Heffernan said he could not pass up the opportunity to work with Borrelli.

“Being an alumni was obviously a big factor, (CMU is) a place that feels home to me,” Heffernan said. “Ever since I left I always wanted to come back, and to coach with (Borrelli) is a dream come true.”

Heffernan compiled a 91-38 record at CMU from 2014-2018, earning a third-place finish in the 2018 MAC Tournament and a second-place finish in 2017, both coming at 157 pounds. The Cleveland native also competed at the 149 and 165-pound weight classes.

He had spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at Ohio University under coach Joel Greenlee. Heffernan aided the Bobcats to a fifth-place finish in the 2019 MAC Tournament and a 5-3 conference record in 2020.
