In an email to the campus community on Monday, Central Michigan University President Bob Davies updated students on COVID-19 restrictions.

CMU is not requiring students, staff and faculty to be vaccinated in order to return to campus. However, masks will be required for everyone, even those that are vaccinated.

Davies shared the results of a campus survey that was sent out last week. It showed that approximately 34 percent of on-campus students are vaccinated, compared to 60 percent of staff and 71 percent of faculty.

“While we do not require our students and employees to be vaccinated,” Davies said. “We strongly encourage everyone to get a vaccine. It not only protects you but also helps to protect your friends and classmates, our entire campus, and the surrounding community.”

CMU continues to offer free vaccines for faculty, staff and students. These are available by appointment in Foust Hall. In addition to free vaccines, CMU started a vaccine incentive program, the first drawing will be Monday, August 2.

A larger number of students will be on campus this fall compared to Fall 2020 due to the majority of classes having “a face-to-face component” and classrooms being back at full capacity, according to Davies.

Classes for Fall 2021 will begin on Monday, August 30.
