Homecoming spirit week events begin tomorrow

Homecoming Spirit Week is in full swing this year after being scaled back in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aside from the actual Homecoming game, various university offices and organizations have planned a slew of other events leading up to Saturday's 3:30 p.m. kick-off.
Additionally, former Central Michigan Football and National Football League great Joe Staley will serve as grand marshal for this year's celebration.
Here is the list of events:
Wednesday, Oct. 13
Social Media Take Over
Student Homecoming Committee members will be taking over CMU social media to share what they have planned for Homecoming activities
Annual Medallion Hunt
Clues will be given daily on the Office of Student Activities & Involvement Facebook page and Instagram to unlock Gold CMU Seal Homecoming Medallion from the vault.
Peace, Maroon and Gold Tie-Dye
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the UC Lawn
First 150 students will receive a clothing item to tie-dye. Participants are welcomed to bring an additional item.
Home Run Derby
5 p.m. at Margo Jonker Stadium
Participants can earn the title as their team’s “All Star” by hitting the most home runs. Sign up on IM Leagues
Trivia Night - “All things Heroes”
8 p.m. Virtually
Think you know everything about “Heroes”? Prove it and gather up your team of friends to join for a three-round trivia night. Join Trivia Night Here
Thursday, Oct. 14
An Evening with Olympic Swimmer Cullen Jones
5 p.m. in the Plachta Auditorium
Join CMU alumna Talia Mark-Brookshire and former Detroit Free Press Sports Reporter Perry Farrel for a facilitated discussion with Olympic swimmer Cullen Jones.
Glow in the Dark Cornhole
7 p.m. at the Barnes Lawn
A single-elimination tournament will be held at Barnes Lawn. Come watch fellow students compete for the Gold/Maroon/Greek Cups and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate.
Friday, Oct. 15
Fire Up Friday!
Wear your favorite CMU shirts/sweatshirt.
Homecoming Chalking
11a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Bovee UC & around campus
Show your chalk talents and CMU Pride by creating the best design corresponding with the Homecoming theme.
Rock Rally
6 p.m. in the Plachta Auditorium or via Livestream
Participants will compete in a lip-sync competition for the "Gold Cup Trophy." 2021 Gold Ambassadors will also be announced at the event. Benjamin Griffith, Bridget LaPoint, Katelyn King, Nova Moore, and Hallie Wolf are the nominees.
Saturday, Oct. 16
CMU Homecoming 5K Run/Walk benefiting Special Olympics – Michigan
8 a.m. inside Finch Fieldhouse
Join over 400 participants in a run/walk throughout campus that will help to support children and adults in year-round sports training and athletic competition for persons with intellectual disabilities. Participants must register ahead of time.
Homecoming Parade
11 a.m.
The Homecoming Parade is an annual tradition that unites students, alumni, faculty, staff, and Mount Pleasant community members. The parade begins on-campus in Lot 22 and travels down Washington Street, to Bellows Street, Main Street, Broadway Street and Sacred Heart Church located off Fancher Street.
Homecoming Football Game – CMU vs. Toledo
3:30 p.m. in Kelly/Shorts Stadium
The student section is free with your CMU ID card. Regular admission starts at $10.
