CMU takes on U of M at the Field Hockey complex, Sunday, Sept. 5. The Chips lost 8-0.

After an emotional 1-0 win over Kent State last week, Central Michigan Field Hockey lost its Mid-American Conference match 7-0 to Longwood on Friday.

The Chippewas fall to 2-7 and 1-2 in conference action. The Lancers are now 6-3 overall and 2-1 in MAC play.

“I think we were stagnant in our play today and we let Longwood dictate what we were doing,” said coach Catherine Ostoich. “We had a lot of turnovers and didn't go with the game plan. We gotta possess the ball and it just didn't happen today.”

How It Happened

Lancers midfielder Cammy Toddy was the first to score for Longwood just 36 seconds into the game. Not far behind, freshman midfielder Maroussia Walckiers picked up a loose ball in the arc and shot high left post to put the lancers up 2-0.

The Chippewas couldn't quite find their footing as the Lancers scored two more goals before the end of the half.

The Lancers failed to ease up on CMU, putting up 10 more shots and finding the back of the net three more times in the second half. The Chippewas managed to muster two shots on net.

Key Stats

Going into the half the Lancers led 4-0 and had seven shots on goal. Central went into the half with no shots on goal.

“We have to find team defense and it was very individual today and we have seen in the past that it just doesn't work.” Said Ostoich.

Key Performers

CMU junior midfielder Rachel Ruttenberg led the team with two shots. Sophomore goalie Katie Maxim had seven saves.

Longwoods sophomore midfielder Isis Vrolijks led the team with four shots and three shots on goal.

What's Next

The Chippewas have a quick turnaround as they travel to Loretto, Pennsylvania for their match giants Saint Francis on Sunday.
